About The Work
Working with the eye-catching beauty of glass & linen fiber, I create pieces that function both as jewelry and wearable art. Each piece begins with a recent inspiration: a newly acquired vintage bead or the awareness of a kicky color mix. I spend a good deal of time choosing the textures, colors and shapes that will be melded together. Each item is formed in one continuous process: tightly intertwined with linen is a combination of individually selected glass beads forming a piece of jewelry unique to itself. I carefully select from a great variety of beads: ethnic, "nuevo vintage," handmade, and truly vintage (from the 1950-1970's). All jewelry closes with a glass button from 1930's Czechoslovakia or Germany. Up to 20 strands of different tones of waxed linen run silently through the core of each piece, peeking out here and there and working as another distinctive element in the work. Similar to nature, these pieces are malleable and can be molded to lie around the nape of the neck or wrist to create the most flattering style for each person. They can be bent until they have attained the perfect fit for each wearer. Every time I begin the knotting process for each piece of jewelry, I find myself filled with anticipation, though the time spent in preparation leaves me fairly certain of the outcome. I still find myself frequently surprised, and filled with pride, as each piece draws to a beautiful finish. |
